    For employers

Does your company pension scheme already have a modern investment quota?

Even the state relies on investments instead of interest-bearing contracts, which often remain below inflation. Have your company pension scheme thoroughly examined, in terms of employment law and the plan terms, so that your employees continue to find it attractive.

These days, retirement planning is no longer possible without advice.

Let's compare the advantages and disadvantages of retirement savings accounts and company pension schemes together and find a sensible way for your private provision. We are happy to help, whether you are an employer or an employee.

Questions and answers about retirement savings accounts

What is the retirement savings account?

The retirement savings account is a state-sponsored private pension provision that will be available from January 1, 2027 (Old Pension Reform Act). You save in a securities account, for example with ETFs or stocks, and receive allowances and possibly a tax advantage. It is considered the successor to the Riester pension.

How much is the funding in the retirement savings account?

The basic allowance is 50 cents per euro of personal contribution up to €360 per year and 25 cents per euro up to €1,800, together a maximum of €540 per year. Up to €300 is added per child with child benefit, and under 25 years of age there is a one-off €200 career entry bonus. If the special expense deduction brings in more than the allowances, the tax office will reimburse the difference. A total of up to €6,840 can be deposited per year.

What are the disadvantages of retirement savings accounts?

There is no guarantee of contribution: the value fluctuates with the capital markets. Payment will be made at the earliest at age 65, mainly as a monthly payment plan; A maximum of 30% is possible as a one-off amount at the start of retirement. The withdrawals are fully taxable in old age. Anyone who cancels beforehand and has the money paid out usually has to pay back allowances and tax advantages.

Should I switch my Riester contract to a retirement savings account?

Not without testing. The change is voluntary and final. With the transfer, the premium guarantee no longer applies and the sometimes high guaranteed interest rates from older contracts are lost. Riester contracts also allow you to start your pension earlier: from 62, or even from 60 if taken out before 2012. The retirement savings account only starts at 65. In addition, there are possible switching costs of up to €150. Therefore, have the contract checked beforehand.

Retirement provision deposit or company pension provision (bAV)?

Both can be combined. Contributions from the gross income flow into the company pension scheme, tax-free up to €8,112 in 2026 and social security contributions-free up to €4,056. In the case of deferred compensation, the employer must contribute at least 15%; many pay more. Health and nursing care insurance contributions generally apply as you get older. The retirement savings account is saved from the net and is particularly worthwhile for families and lower incomes. Which mixture is suitable depends on the individual case.

What is the early start pension?

For children born in 2020 or later, the state pays €10 per month into a retirement savings account from their 6th to their 18th birthday. Parents and grandparents can add on. From the age of 18, the portfolio continues to run as a separate retirement savings account. The Bundestag passed the early start pension on October 16, 2026, the approval of the Bundesrat is still pending.
